PSYCHOLOGIST IN UTRECHT

Perspective.
Insight.
Change.

Therapy for adults, in person and online, in English and Greek.

It is not a question of if you will survive this, but what beautiful things await you when you do.

PSYCHOLOGIST IN UTRECHT

Welcome, I’m Liana.

It is one of my life’s greatest privileges to walk alongside people to become more fully aware of themselves, confront their joys and pains, and be motivated to change.

I offer a safe, empathic and warm space for adults facing challenges, whether personal, relational or tied to a new chapter in their lives. My approach is centered around you and thoughtfully shaped to fit your needs, personality and goals.

I see therapy as a collaborative process grounded in curiosity, openness and trust. We look at the patterns in your life and relationships, make sense of what is happening, and gain the insight to make changes that feel meaningful to you. My aim is to support your overall well-being, at a pace we set together and without any pressure to perform or to fit a label.

A little about me

I was born in Greece, but I learned early on what it means to arrive somewhere new. Twice as a child I lived in the United States, each time the new child in an English-speaking classroom. Years later, I arrived in the Netherlands, first in Groningen and then in Utrecht, where I now work. Each arrival taught me that home is not only where you come from, but something you slowly find. It also showed me how much of who we are is shaped by the places we have lived. That is why cultural sensitivity is part of my work: your background is not a side note to your story, but part of it.

Research on culture and identity is something I truly love. It was the subject of my master’s thesis, and I will keep exploring how people find their place between cultures. Read my thesis

Education and experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree
    Psychology
    University of Groningen
  • Master's degree
    Clinical Psychology
    Utrecht University
  • Further training
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and dance movement therapy

Experience

  • Clinical experience
    Clinical traineeship
Inpatient psychiatric clinic, Galene Clinic, Athens
During my traineeship in Athens, I had the opportunity to work with people with a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, adjustment difficulties, trauma and neurodivergence. My work included intakes, assessments and psychological treatment, alongside a team of psychologists and psychiatrists at the clinic.
I also designed and led my own art group for patients at the clinic. Art can offer a way to express what is hard to put into words, and many patients chose to join, some simply to sit and watch. Several made work they were proud to share.
  • Volunteering
    Mental health support volunteer
@ease, a mental health organisation for young people, alongside my studies
  • Research experience
Lab research on meaning in life and anxiety
    University of Groningen
I co-designed an experimental study on whether a sense of meaning in life can protect against anxiety. I recruited the participants, ran the lab sessions with care, and completed de-escalation training so that I could support anyone who became distressed.
  • Research experience
Master’s thesis on cultural identity conflict
    Utrecht University
My thesis looked at how cultural identity conflict relates to psychological symptoms in bicultural young adults, and what part self-concept clarity and rumination play.
